Hey awesome followers!
I have my 4th tip on how to rock your mock up! It is all about the importance of props and some examples of great props you can use. If you're wondering, "Where do I go to buy props?" I have your answer: "Dollar Tree"! Go there before you mock and you can find many great and fun classroom additions! I suggest flashcards. They have a nice variety usually. Flashcards are my friend when it comes to online ESL teaching. Also, a stuffed animal or puppet for the younger kiddos. You won't be disappointed. 😊🧡 I am so happy to share with you how to be able to succeed with your mock class. I know there is a lot to take in, but check out my series on How to Rock Your Mock for some great ideas! I'm cheering for you all the way! Teacher Kasey 🦄😎⭐

Hey everyone! I am so excited to share with you Unicorn Teacher's fun interview with Teacher Kasie! That's right, you saw it right, there are two of us! Teeheehee!
Kasie is always having awesome live teacher chats throughout the week, and she has had interviews with so many awesome teachers, including the AWESOME Nancy Taylor! She also interviewed me, so it was fun being on the other side and asking her the fun questions this time! Kasie has had such an interesting experience, as she has lived abroad in Japan and Germany! She was teaching the young kiddos on the military bases out there and lived abroad for quite a few years. How AMAZING! She has a couple of kids!! She was talking about how her son got married, and since COVID-19 is happening, she wasn't able to make it! Fortunately, her parents were there and they got Kasie and her husband on a video call, so they could still attend the wedding via video! How cool is that?! We had such a wonderful time talking, and it was cool getting to know more about Kasie! I have her website, her YouTube channel, and this podcast episode linked below for you to check out!! Kasie is so awesome! Woohooo, we are on tip #3 (Use Simple Language). It is best to keep your teaching instructions to the absolute minimum when teaching English. This helps you feel more comfortable and it saves your students some confusion, so it's a two-fer! This video will give you some useful pointers in how to make this magic happen (I have it linked below).
Keeping it simple is so helpful, especially for lower level students. They have a very limited English vocabulary, so it's best to keep it as simple as possible, by giving one word directions and modeling it for your student. This really helps them to know what to expect! Remember the last video on TPR? TPR does play a part in this as well, so bring on the TPR and get your popcorn ready for this next part. 😁⭐ Hey all! At Unicorn Teachers, we are fully in action, as we set forth and continue the awesomeness! Teacher Rachel, with Merciful Mornings, is such a sweet and amazing person, mom, and ESL teacher. In this episode, she talks about her journey and how she has gotten to where she is today. She truly is an inspiration!
Teacher Rachel talks about taking the "enneagram test". This test can really help you understand yourself! I checked it out, and there is a free version (I will link it below for you). It is so interesting! So if you have time while you're at home, I would suggest taking it for fun! Anyways! Rachel talked about this test and shared that she is a helper and an achiever. She REALLY is! Rachel talked about how she really loves helping others out as much as she can. What a great and genuine person! She has achieved so much with her life and where she is now, along with her AWESOME brand "Merciful Mornings" (you can listen to the episode, which is also linked below 👍😊). Rachel talks about her favorite fun monkey prop. (See the thumbnail for a glimpse!) This monkey can eat bananas! How awesome is that?! I love her motto for teaching ESL online: "You can do anything in 25 minutes." This is SO true, and helpful to remember if you feel that you have a lot happening and maybe it is a difficult class. Remember Rachel saying this! It is only 25 minutes, you've totally got this! It was great listening to Rachel talk about how it's nice to think of this, whether you are teaching challenging content, have a student that doesn't want to be there in class, or whatever else it may be: You CAN do anything in 25 minutes. What a wonderful take away! Rachel was such a fun guest, and it was awesome getting to talk with her on the Unicorn Teachers podcast! You can check out her page (I will link it below- she wrote an amazing blog post about being on Unicorn Teachers. 🦄😊) Catch you next time! I am so happy to announce our very first "Unicorn Teachers" podcast interview! It was so amazing getting to chat with teacher Morgan SWM. She shared some fun stories about some of her students, including a student that likes to get a little personal with the camera and show a close up of her mouth during her classes! 😂
Morgan has wonderful advice about when you have those tough students and I enjoyed hearing her talk about celebrating the little successes. Some students really have a difficult time, and maybe a big success can be them saying the correct pronunciation of a word they have had many challenges with. It's worth knowing that it's totally okay if a student doesn't get every bit. Of course, it's like a bonus when this does happen, but truly, not all students are the same! It's important to know how to deal with different types and levels of students. When asked, "How are unicorns like ESL teachers?" Morgan had a great response! She said that we are all so different and have different teaching styles. Unicorns are so rare and different, and unicorn teachers are also extremely different! Since we are all built differently, I also think students can be unicornesque (I just made this a word 🦄- it's not in the dictionary yet!) Teacher Morgan was such a delight to talk with, and I know you would love to hear what else she has to share! You can check out the podcast here! Hey awesome people!
In this second part of my series, I share my second tip on how to rock your mock class. Many of our students have somewhere around 13 hours of class a day, so it helps to really make your time with them count! When you praise your student, your student feels so good and happy about being in class, because they are working to get to that next superhero, princess, unicorn, Star Wars gif, etc... Students 💖 to be praised and told that they are doing a good job. Some of them make learning English flawless and so easy, but others can truly be giving it their best, but they may still be struggling with the content. Here is where you celebrate the small wins. Praise them with a high five, thumbs up, stickers, superhero, princess... They are working for it, and many students love being rewarded, because they are learning a language on top of their busy schedules, which is no easy feat. Celebrate together! Have an in-class dance party if the inspiration hits and they are needing some extra movement and fun! Jazz it up! Check the link tab below for this awesome tip #2 in video form, for some extra tips! You've got this! Happy teaching! 💖🦄👍😎🎉 Teacher Kasey |
